I'VE NEVER RIDDEN BEFORE! WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO START LEARNING?
To begin learning and progress to on-road riding with a CBT, you need to be at least 16 years old and possess a valid provisional motorcycle licence, both card and counterpart.
DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO START MOTORCYCLE TRAINING?
Training with Daventry Motorcycle School is comprehensive and you need no prior experience to begin, however, if you are a push-bike rider, or a sporty person, you may find this will help. It is suggested that you purchase a copy of the highway code and study it prior to training.
WHAT LICENCES DO I REQUIRE IN ORDER TO START TRAINING?
To discover which licence you require before you begin training, contact us. You can experience a half-day taster course without a licence, as there is no on-road work involved.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO TRAIN TO RIDE MOTORCYCLES?
Generally, you will complete the CBT within one 6-7 hour day of training. Further licences vary, depending on experience and ability, but 3 days is a reasonable minimum.
HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO START RIDING MOTORCYCLES?
To take a CBT course, you must be at least 16 years old and possess the correct provisional licence. However, we run taster courses and some off-road enduro sessions for younger people.
HOW MUCH DO YOUR TRAINING COURSES COST?
CBT with your own bike is £110, CBT with our fleet bike and kit is £125, Full licence (A1 / A2 / A) courses start at £30/hour, with a minimum 15 hour course length required for all training, so will depend on any training required in excess of the minimum to make you safe. Please consult each individual page for course costs.
CAN YOU GIVE ME GUIDANCE AS TO WHICH COURSE I SHOULD CHOOSE TO DO?

I HAVEN'T RIDDEN IN SEVERAL YEARS. CAN YOU HELP REFRESH MY RIDING AND GET ME SAFELY BACK ON THE ROAD?
This is a common request, and we do run Refresher Courses at our site in Daventry designed to update you with the latest, modern riding techniques to make you a safer rider.
CAN I TRAIN IF THE WEATHER IS POOR?
As long as it is safe to ride, we continue training. However, you must dress appropriately for the weather conditions.
RIDING SEEMS EXCITING BUT DANGEROUS - WHAT'S THE REALITY?
Our training is very well structured. We teach you to walk before you run, in other words - it is progressive training always with safety in mind.
HOW MANY PEOPLE TRAIN IN A GROUP? / CAN I PAY FOR 1 TO 1 TRAINING? / CAN I TRAIN WITH A PARTNER?
On our CBT courses, we train at a maximum ratio of 4 students to 1 instructor. You can train with a partner no problem, but please mention this when booking a course to ensure there are spaces available. CAN I BRING A SPECTATOR?
As long as spectators remain outside the training areas, beyond the safety barriers, this is not a problem. However, they will be required to vacate the premises when we leave to do the on-road training segments.
WHAT IS YOUR AVAILABILITY FOR TRAINING?
Typically, CBT courses take place in Daventry on Fridays, and in Rugby on Saturdays. We run additional CBT courses as required. Please call to book your course as soon as possible on 07912 219 733, or drop us an email to check whether your preferred date is available.
WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR TO SAFELY START MY TRAINING?
At a minimum, for a CBT course you will need to wear a stong pair of Jeans, boots of some description (without heels) and if you have them, your own motorcycle gloves, which are a fantastic investment for any would be rider. It is recommended that you seek out the best protective motorcycle gear you can afford, for optimum protection. Part of the CBT training day discusses the merits of protective gear.
WHERE CAN I GET THE NECESSARY SAFETY EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR MOTORCYCLE TRAINING?
